Thriving Inshore Fishing Opportunities

The inshore bite presents exciting opportunities with good numbers of mangrove snapper, Spanish mackerel, and trout found in the bay. He recommends focusing on the deeper flats around 6 to 8 feet, particularly targeting the grass edges adjacent to the sand patches for trout. Larger trout tend to ambush their prey as the bait flees over the sandy patch, creating an exciting environment for anglers. Artificial baits work very well in these grassy areas and are beneficial for the survival rate of release.

Targeting Snapper and Spanish Mackerel

Snapper holds on the flats as well as on deeper rock piles. Anglers can use lots of chum or cut up threadfins and light leader with a #1 hook to gather these sweet-tasting fish. It’s important to remember the limit of 5 per person and a 10″ minimum. Captain Mike urges to keep them a little larger, allowing them to mature and yield a more satisfying fillet.

Spanish mackerel can be attracted with a chum block hanging off the side of an anchored boat. Use 30 to 40# fluorocarbon leader with a long shank 1/0 hook and live greenies or threads for the best results.

Scallop Season in Homosassa

Scallop season is also in full effect in Homosassa. “It’s like an adult Easter egg hunt,” shared Captain Mike. Snorkel down to about 4 to 7 feet of water, and you’ll spot them. He invites those interested in the scallop hunt to contact him at 813.459.2521, or email at [email protected] for bookings with Fish This Inshore Charters.

Summer: The Ideal Time for Offshore Fishing

“The offshore bite is going great and will improve through the summer,” Captain Mike added, highlighting the endless fun and big fish that await offshore. This summer is the perfect time to explore what makes the Florida area theideal vacation destination.

Whether your aim is to target specific species like snapper, have a fun-filled day for children, or observing wildlife, Fish This Inshore Charters aims to exceed expectations on every fishing charter.
