As a native Floridian and an ecologist, I have extensive knowledge of the bays, inlets and estuaries within Tampa Bay, Ft. Desoto areas and Bradenton.  The variety waters in our area offer some of the best opportunities to target and stalk these elusive fish within the flats and nearshore waters that also are home to manatees, dolphins, sea turtles and numerous species of wading birds.  I grew up fishing and scolloping in Homosassa with my grandparents.  They had a major influence on me in my desire to fish and to be an Environmental Biologist. Spending my days trolling and wading throught the backwaters as a child helped me to undertand the significance of the ebb and flow of the tides and fish response. The effluence of freshwater from rain events and the effects on salinity regarding the tolerence by certain fish species was something tangible to learn that I could take with me in my studies at USF.  My studies focused on wetlands and tidal areas within the Tampa bay area.  My prior occupation in ecology was focused on these same principles. As an ecologist, I have had the opportunity to participate with Tampa Bay Watch with several restoration projects including sea grass and mangrove plantings for flats habitat enhancement and reef domes for benthic recruitment for reef fishes to forage.  I have also participated in some oyster bar restorations which aid in shoreline stabilization and establishment of an improved ecosystem with the recruitment of oysters and barnacles.  Understanding the baseline of what is needed in an ecosystem aids in targeting species of interest.
